National LATINA Symposium 2007

“Outreach to groups, empower them,” said Napolitano. “Vote, yes. Start to talk to everyone. How are they going to help us in being in every segment of the community if we don’t outreach? Open the doors for Latinas and Latina Entrepreneurs.”

During the second panel “If I Were a Rich Girl – Acquiring Wealth through Investments and Real Estate, and Saying No to a Fabulous New Pair of Shoes,” moderated by Bernadette Trujillo-Vadurro, president of Speakers Live, informed the audience the importance of financial independence, budgeting, and home investment. Panelists included Grisell Cabero Palsson, investment advisor for Mass Mutual Financial Group and Desiree Munson, of Keller Williams Realty.

During the session, Palsson mentioned the importance of understanding all aspects of a financial plan, a comprehensive view on a financial situation. “Let’s begin by creating a budget, a long term and a short term one,” she said. “It is important to save money. We should be conservative with our money and save.”

During the next panel entitled “Baby Got Cash – Protecting Wealth through Pre-Nuptials, Financial Planning, Wills & Massages” held at the senate room, attendees learned about the tools on how to protect their assets from divorce, heath and disability. Panelists included Loretta Garcia, Esquire, Savit & Szymkowicz LLP, and Dr. Archelle Georgiou, executive vice president of Strategic Relations at OptumHealth.

“Set up a wise financial plan,” said Garcia, “Work hard, gather all documents, and celebrate success.”

During a 10 minute break, attendees had the opportunity to meet with high-end executives and leaders from across the country. For those who wonder how these Latinas have climbed the corporate ladder or have met a high level of success in their business they were invited to attend the “Business Secrets & Strategies I Learned from Men, Mom, and Mentors” workshop. During this session, moderated by Nina Vaca, president of Pinnacle Technical Resources Inc., the10 Anna Maria Arias Business Fund Award recipients shared their stories of success, and commitment.

Latina achievement was the topic of sessions and activities held at the fourth annual National LATINA Symposium. After the series of panel discussions aimed to recognize and celebrate the advancement of Latinas in the U.S., the agenda followed by highlighting the important contributions Latinas in the military service make to our country.
